FAQ
Good
questions.
Speed, range, charging, road rules and running costs: the questions we hear most in the Fremantle showroom, answered.
Riding.
How fast do electric bikes go?
Road-legal e-bikes in Australia assist you up to 25 km/h. Off-road models can go faster, but they may only be ridden on private land.
How far can I ride on one charge?
Usually 30 to 60 km. Range depends on the battery size, the rider, the terrain and how much assist you use. Larger batteries on some models go much further.
Can I test ride before I buy?
Yes. Visit our Fremantle showroom at 33D Adelaide St, seven days a week, and take a bike for a spin.
Do you hire out electric bikes?
Yes, e-bike hire is available next door, from around $50 a day. Ask us in store.
Battery &
charging.
How do I charge an electric bike?
Every e-bike comes with a charger. Plug it into a normal power point and connect it to the battery; it stops automatically when the battery is full. Always use a charger that matches your battery's voltage.
How do I look after my battery?
Avoid running it completely flat, and don't store it empty. Switch it off when you are not riding. If you won't ride for more than a month, charge it fully and remove it from the bike.
How long does a battery last?
Plan on replacing the battery roughly every three years with regular use. We stock replacement batteries and chargers.
Can I see how much charge is left?
Yes. Indicator lights on the battery give a rough level, and bikes with a display show it on the screen.
Do your bikes have regenerative braking?
No. For now, the downsides of regenerative braking outweigh the small gain in range.
Buying &
road rules.
Which e-bikes are road legal in Australia?
Pedal-assist e-bikes limited to 250W (EN15194 / EPAC) can be ridden on roads and cycle paths. Higher-power bikes are for private land and off-road use only. Use the "Road / Off-road" filter in our shop to see which is which.
How much does an e-bike cost to run?
Very little: around 25 cents of electricity per 100 km. The main costs are the bike itself and a new battery roughly every three years.
Do you deliver?
Yes, we deliver e-bikes, conversion kits and parts Australia-wide.
What warranty do I get?
Our e-bikes come with a 1-year warranty. Ask us about the details for your model.
Workshop &
kits.
Can you convert my existing bike?
Most likely. Mountain bikes, hybrids, commuters and cargo bikes convert well. See our conversion kits or bring your bike in.
Do I need an appointment for a service?
No. Drop in during opening hours. Service packages start at $80.
Do you service bikes bought elsewhere?
Yes, we work on all brands of electric and regular bikes.
